Dear friends and supporters from YAA,
I write this letter to thank you from the incredible gift you gave me this year.
2016 has being a very intensive and productive year. I attended the Young Composers’ Meeting in Apeldoorn with Orkest de Ereprijs and Mixtur festival and academy for new music in Barcelona; I composed “De Perfecta Machina Necandi” (which was later performed at Gaudeamus Muziekweek in Utrecht); “Verloren-O.N.” for the Nieuw Ensemble; “Fors Seulement”, for recorder and five voices, “Subito”, for solo tin whistle; “Nachtzweemen”, an eendagslied on text by Hagar Peeters; “Shadow-Echo-Transcription” for violin and cello, employing a very unconventional conception of “music score” and “Never Losing Hope”, for clarinet, viola and piano. Both these last pieces received great off-record praises from important musicians.
Thanks to your support, specially, I’ve been also able to attend two wonderful weeks of summer academy and masterclasses at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, working under the tutorage of such an internationally acclaimed reference as Georg Friedrich Haas is. Learning from him was great since he is, besides a great composer, a great and sensitive comunicator……………
Besides all these, I continued further my research on the different topics that “compose” the composers’ life and work. For me the steady combination of production, education and research is key
to my personal and compositional development.
My future plans are no less exciting. Compositionally, they include a song cycle on Dutch texts following the success of “Nachtzweemen”, a polywork for theorbo and voice inspired by the Zodiac, as
well as the initial plans for another operatic work and much more research on technical, identitary and meta-compositional issues. In terms of development I will attend in February the Impuls Academy for
new music in Graz, and I will soon apply for a wonderful three-month creative residency in Vienna for 2017, with the support of YAA.
This is how my recent past and future look like from now. I also had the opportunity, thanks to your support, to work with graphic artist Kry García and web developer Willy Muñoz in my upcoming site.
Just for you (it’s not yet officially released): manuelsanchezgarcia.com
So, really, thank you very much for your nice support. I will keep working to improve myself and seize
this wonderful opportunity you offered me.Best regards,
Manuel Sánchez García
